Elaine Maldonado, NSF/TECH-FIT Co-PI

Elaine Maldonado is the Director of Faculty Development and Center for Excellence in Teaching at Fashion Institute of Technology/SUNY. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cooper Union, a Master of Science in Education from City University of New York and Fine Arts Certificate from the University of Madrid, Spain. Prior to coming to FIT, she was the Director of the College Learning Centers at New York City College of Technology, CUNY’s senior technical college.

Professor Maldonado has had faculty appointments at Parsons School of Design, CUNY and at Bank Street College of Education. Named an outstanding scholar by CUNY in 2004, 2005 and 2006, her essays have been published by the Journal of Educational Technology Systems (2010), the University of the Arts-London (CLTAD Conference proceedings), E-source for First Year College Students and the American Society for Engineering Education.

Professor Maldonado authored and directed a $518,000 FIPSE grant at CUNY designed to maximize the role of adjunct faculty and improve student outcomes. She has written and directed numerous state level and campus level grants that address both teaching and learning. A sampling of her presentations include those hosted by the U.S. Department of Education, the State University of New Jersey, State University of New York, University of the Arts/London and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
